Season 9 String Dupers

Build a reliable string farm with the classic waterlogged trapdoor mechanic and safe spacing.

Classic String Duper Re-enabled: Safely produce string for wool, beds, scaffolding, and villager trades using the classic waterlogged trapdoor mechanic!

How the Duper Works

In modern Minecraft, water usually breaks tripwire lines. On Horizons SMP, water from a waterlogged trapdoor flowing onto an attached tripwire does not wash away the string. Instead, the string stays intact and drops 1 to 3 bonus string items!

How to Build Your Farm

  • 1. Support Blocks: Place two solid blocks facing each other with a gap of 1 to 5 blocks between them.
  • 2. Tripwire Hooks: Mount a Tripwire Hook on each inward-facing block.
  • 3. String Line: Connect string between the two hooks until both hooks click downward into the armed state.
  • 4. Waterlogged Trapdoors: Place wooden trapdoors directly adjacent to the string and right-click water into each trapdoor.
  • 5. Redstone Pulse: Connect a lever or a redstone clock (observer or repeater loop) to flip the trapdoors open and closed.
  • 6. Collection: Place hoppers and chests directly below the string line to collect dropped items quickly.

Server Anti-Lag Restrictions

  • Max Width (5 Blocks): Any string line longer than 5 blocks will not dupe. Keep lines between 1 and 5 blocks wide.
  • Both Hooks Attached: Loose string on the ground will not dupe. Tripwire must be armed between two hooks.
  • Anti-Stacking (11+ Blocks Clearance): Multi-story vertical duper towers are blocked. Maintain at least 11 blocks of empty space vertically between duper setups.
  • Chunk Cap (Disabled): There is no per-chunk cap on dropped string by default (config maxStringPerChunk: -1).
  • 30-Second Despawn: Dropped string despawns in 30 seconds to prevent entity lag. Make sure your hoppers collect items promptly!
